The ATOM Lite evaluation kit has already an integrated IR transmitter, but unfortunately the distance is just 10-20cm. To increase the distance, an external transmitter can be used.
The board can be easily used by connecting it to the bottom female pin-headers.
In this example GPIO25 is used and not the internal IR LED at GPIO12.
To make the whole solution again more handy it can be used with the ATOM breakout housing.
Unfortunately the IR transmitter I had used does not fit inside, so I fixed it.
Now it fits into the housing.
And it can be connected at the bottom side of the breakout PCB.
The result is a handy IR transmitter with a nice handy housing.
